The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, designed by Charles and Ray Eames and produced by Vitra since 1956, was conceived as a reinterpretation of the traditional English club chair. Developed over years of research, the project combines generous proportions, exceptional comfort, and a refined use of materials. With this design, the Eameses set new standards: lighter and more sophisticated than classic models, it has marked the history of modern furniture.A symbol of the American Fifties, the Lounge Chair has become an internationally recognized icon. It blends a distinctive aesthetic with a construction quality that remains relevant, featuring carefully crafted details and fine finishes. The structure consists of molded plywood shells with different veneers: European cherry, Santos palisander, natural or dark walnut, and natural or black chestnut. The removable leather-upholstered cushions rest on padded armrests connected with shock-absorbing rubber and metal joints. The chair base has five-star legs, while the ottoman has four, both in die-cast aluminum, with interchangeable glides for carpets or hard floors.In recent years, Vitra, in collaboration with the Eames Office, has introduced a larger version designed to provide the same level of comfort for taller individuals.
